What You Might Find on Our Beaches
Kelp
Over the autumn months, look out for kelp washed up on our beaches. Log your sighting with the Kelp Recording Scheme above.
Egg Cases
Catshark and ray egg cases ("mermaid's purses") wash up regularly. Report your findings to the Shark Trust.
Cuttlefish Eggs
Between May and August, cuttlefish eggs wash ashore since the kelp beds they'd normally attach to are gone. If you find some, please return them to the sea at low tide.
Squid Eggs
Also found washed up in summer months — like cuttlefish eggs, these can be returned to the sea at low tide.
Rockpool Treasures
Spring and summer bring all sorts of finds in the rockpools. Share your discoveries with us on Facebook — we love seeing them.
